Would I be able to ditch the sand and would the liverock be enough to sustain the system with the few fish I have without haven too cycle the tank? Cause I realize the sand obviously has a lot of bacteria on them. Haven’t siphoned the sand bed in a few months and I know it’s bad to stir it up. I’m trying to move the fish in the least stressful way. Thanks.

In most cases, the majority of your biological filter is contained within your rocks and not your sand. Most people have no issues removing their sand without issue. So long as you remove your fish and rock first, you can likely transfer and leave the sand in the original tank.

Ok thanks.

Rocks should be enough. When I have switched systems I have just moved the rock and left the sand alone

Ok good to know, my fish are going from a 40 to a 120 definitely excited about the build. Recently had a tank crash on my 90 gallon due to my room overheating. Just keeping one tank from now on.

I know that feeling. Its a tough pill to swallow and after my crash I did the same thing. Focus on just one tank
