Hi everyone, I’m gonna be moving my 34g tank from one room to another, and really need some advice please it’s been up and running for about 16 months.

I want to change the sand (never liked the grain size it keeps being blown around even on a low setting) and roughly 60% of the rock to new smaller rocks (dry) the current rocks are far too big.. and have trouble putting corals on there. Plus the aptasia problem seems to get worse instead of better and I’ve tried everything

I will be keeping the filter media (maxspect bio balls and blocks) and roughly 50l of the current water.

My livestock is -

2x Clowns
Orchid Dottyback
Firefish
Tailspot blenny
Green Coral Goby
2x cleaner shrimp
A tuxedo urchin
And the usual CUC
Various corals Acans/Favias/chalice/zoas

thanks

peppermint shrimps and file fish are your way to go for aptisa

Sorry didn’t realise I hadn’t put my question lol obviously I’d possibly have some sort of cycle but would that be ok to do? Would I get away with replacing the rock completely?

haven’t tried a filefish yet but I’ve tried peppermints, Nudibranchs, all the “aptasia killers” on the market and they seem to come back with a vengeance

I put 3x peppermints in my 95g tank but my fire shrimp killed them would the cleaner shrimp do the same?

Fire shrimp and "skunk" cleaner shrimp will not kill Peppermint shrimp.
Do not replace all the rock completely.
You will want to "seed" your newly set up aquarium by using some of the sand, live wet rock, or even sponge material from your previous set up. This will soften the cycle and speed it up. Smooth it out so to speak.
Hope that helps!
Get buckets! Or tubs or bins. Lol.
D

Thanks I will probably use a small amount of the original sand and a few rocks after I’ve blow torched any aptasia but I’ll also put in a bottle of Fritz or similar I will be using the bio balls and blocks that’s in the sump they’re obviously seeded so that should help I only use NSW rather than the synthetic stuff, I just don’t wanna lose the fish or corals

My fire shrimp is evil think I’ve got the exception to the rule

When do you plan to do this move?
Why can't you throw some smaller rocks in a bucket with a heater/power head and cure them ahead of time. Then you can just swap out the rock. Sand for seeding.
Aiptasia are the devil. It would be a shame if you moved the tank and a few months down the line you notice aiptasia pop up.
