Moving to a refugium sump from a wet/dry

I've got a 120g that has a few corals and 9 fish, that's a little over a year old. Right now I'm running a wet/dry filter with a hang-on refugium. I just purchased a 125g that's going to be a predator tank. It didn't come with a sump so I'm going to buy baffles and make one. I'm thinking about building a sump with refugium for my 120g and moving the wet/dry over to the 125g. First, what are some opinions on changing out you're filter type after a year? Secondly, would there be any benefit to doing this?

The biggest benefits of the refugium would be a slightly higher pH which would be beneficial if you had corals, and nutrient uptake from macroalgae growing. I think most people moved away from the wet/dry setup because it harbors nitrates.
