Hi, I currently have an Aqua Reef 400 which is probably 7 or 8 years old, I have this set up as an African Cichlid freshwater tank,i was working away a lot when I got this tank so I did not want to risk a coral tank. However, life has changed, I'm essentially working from home now and I want a coral tank. The trouble is this tank is obviously aged and things have moved on. I quite fancy the Red Sea Reefer 350 but as it stands I don't have the monies for the tank and all the equipment required. What are peoples best ideas for upgrading.

Drain and clean this tank, buy the parts required for salt and recycle this tank in the short term whilst saving up more for the biggest expense, the tank. Obviously then, when I do get the reefer, the added stress of moving from a tank to another would be worrisome

Or buy bits and bobs leaving the freshy running as I acrue all the parts for a salt water tank?

Or any and all input to be honest.

Welcome to Reef 2 Reef!

As long as your 400 is still holding water and watertight I'd use it to get your feet wet in reefing.

When buying things like skimmers go with items that can be reused on the reefer 350.

An 4 stage RO/DI unit with a built in TDS meter is a must have in reefing.

The Tunze 3155 atuo top off system is highly regarded too.

He's a link to help as well.
