So, moving in a few months and the tanks need to go in the basement of the new home. The entire basement is carpeted, with nice carpet.

What are my options for covering carpet underneath the tanks? I plan on doing a plywood build in a year or so (my dream 8-9 foot long all glass tank will not fit down 90 degree turn in stairs to basement ) that will be in a different spot than where these tanks will go. Meaning, I do not want to rip up carpet for a short term (1 year) only to have the tanks moved a year later and have a weird section that is not carpeted.

Any ideas are appreciated.

Cheers.

I would suggest a piece of acrylic under the system. Round over the edges for a small foot print. Depending on the size of the system, you could use a office chair mat or two and cut them to size

Thanks, good idea. I have a 127 gallon system, 5 feet long. This would be great.

I would recommend building a sealed plywood foot/riser for the stand to sit upon. Potentially one that has a drain pan feature for potential overflows.

It might be a good practice piece before building a plywood tank.

Also, you might be able to get a custom acrylic tank built that is either seam sealed, or two tanks that look like one.

Thanks Andrew, a solid idea. Would probably help a little keeping it level too.

I think so. It’s be a simple and frustrating piece to build, perfect!

I think acrylic or more flexible mats would crack over time or be ugly.

Alternatively, you could purchase a 1” thick rubber mat or larger.

Or rip up the carpet at 2:30am on a Tuesday night.
