my tank that has my zoas is quickly getting overrun with hair algae. i set up a 29 gal tank this evening with new salt water. question.. can i just move over a little live rock,( a couple pounds at most), from the tank and run it and then tomorrow try to rescue the zoas and put them right into the tank. i will be chipping them from the large pieces of live rock and reattaching to plugs or smaller pieces of rock from another tank. the bulk of my live rock is covered wit hhair algae and i don't want to transfer phosphates and whatever else is causing the hair algae.
thanks.

IMO, I would use some of the old water, actually much as possible. Start using a phosphate remover, carbon and skim heavily if your not. Maybe not use you old sand, could be phosphates locked up in it. Rockwise, maybe get some newer cycled rock from somebody?
