So I finally decided to bit the bullets and buy a vortec. I have been using jebao for a few years. All I hear about the vortecs is they are the best so I shelled out the cash for a new MP 40 qd for my 90 gallon. I got it in the tank and wow it moves some water, but it so loud is that normal or will if quiet-down?

Have you tried aligning the wet side the the dry side took me a few mins to get it perfect and it’s dead silent.

A quick video gives you an idea of what I’m talking about. Honestly it takes some slight touching to get it perfect but I bet that’s your issue.

I stuck a thin piece of felt on the outside between the magnets and that helped a lot. Also check that your cover is secure: mine was rattling really bad one day and as I was standing there, the cover flew half way across the tank.

I don’t see a problem I run mine at 85% and I get a little bit of heat but thts why they had the dry side installed outside of your tank...I consider this as normal

Vortech run at about 55°c (130ish f). It will go up and down with speed % mode ect. They have built in safety so they will shut down if they get too hot

I never managed to make my 2 mp10 close to bearable so I replaced them by a jebao and a coralbox.

Make sure you are using the correct spacer. If you put your hand on the dry side you can tell by feel if the wet side is not aligned properly as the motor will not feel 'smooth'

This is good interesting advice. I'm going to purposely misalign one to try to get a "feel" for it.

I learned to do that when mounting them onto opaque walls where visual alignment is problematic.
