MP10 and flow on a Red Sea reefer 350

Hi all

I am new here so looking for a little help if possible. I did an intro in the introduction discussion so you can see some tank pictures there.
Question: will the ecotech mp10’s work on the Red Sea reefer 350 due to the glass thickness of 12mm and the max stated thickness for and mp10 is 9.5mm?
I am sure they must do but wanted to check if anyone had actually done this.
I did have a reef octopus op4 but it was too much for the tank so I am looking to try a smaller alternative and maybe run two units instead.

Also what return pump flow do people use on a reefer 350? I am at around 1600lph currently on a TMC reef pump 8000 setting 4.

MP10 doesn’t perform well on 12 mm glass, plus I think you’d find it well undersized on a tank that size. MP40 would be a much better choice IME.

Thanks for the response. Useful insight. I found the reef octopus pulse 4 was insane and could only be stepped down to 30% polyps just closed right up on my knopia and it threw sand everywhere! And it’s the dense sand too (special grade Caribsea)!

Any feedback on the return pump lph at all ?

I’ve not used the RO pumps. Vortech tend to have broader flow, which some folks interpret as ‘poor’ flow. The MP10 is just a bit wimpy in my view; I use them on 30 gallon (110 liter) tanks, but not more than that. My own personal turnover philosophy is 3-5, so 1,600 LPH seems just fine to me.

I use two of the 3100 gph current usa dc return pumps
And they are amazing. One is plenty strong enough, but I went with two for other reasons. The 3100 would be over kill but they make smaller ones. They are dead silent and their warranty is amazing and customer service is great.

Not sure if your trying to keep everything brand related or
Just bang for the buck option. I have ran both of mine for over a year and zero issues, which reminds me I should probably clean them.

Good info. Thanks. I liked the idea of the RO pls as they are 0-10c compatible so I could apex them easily
In the future without additional boxes for connection. And bang for buck they seem a good option !

As far as I know they are apex capable but I don’t use an apex. They also hook to bluetook device so I use that for all my info. It allows me to see the temp, when my return pumps are low, I can shut them off with my phone, and change my wave makers flow. It does lights also but I
Have a different version of lights from current that do not work with the Bluetooth device or loop system.

I have the 350 and I'm using one MP40, and it's still not strong enough to get end-to-end flow. I'm using two power heads on each end of the tank to get good flow.

Word of caution, if you do plan on using any Vortech MP power heads or any power heads that can generate pulsing motions on the 350, do not set the power heads on the pulsing mode, it will have enough power to make the water motion move the main drain pipes to cause a leak.

Figured I'd chime in, even though this is old. My Waterbox 75.2 has 12mm glass, and I just tried adding an MP10wQD that I had laying around to the tank.
No go. It's so loose that it won't hold even at low speeds. It sticks until you turn it on, then it just falls off. Brand new wetside, too.

The side glass on the RSR 350 is not as thick as the front glass. The side glass is closer to 1/3 inch.

So have you tried with a mp10? If so how did it go?

I tried using 2 mp10s on an ear 350. One worked fine and the other would fall off at times (depending on the flow setting). I eventually went with 2 mp40s.
