I can't find even the most basic information about my new (mobius enabled sticker and all of that) MP10. The documentation and videos don't explain the overall situation, let alone important details once inside the app.

I can control the MP10 with the physical controller.

I eventually downloaded the mobius app to my cell phone and after I turned on bluetooth on my phone (it's usually off for security reasons), the app found the MP10 (my only Echo Tech device), paired with the MP10 over bluetooth, updated the firmware on the MP10 without my permission, and then sent me thru some setup.

The app is difficult to understand at best, and it seems that as soon I take the cell phone out of the room, it can't control the MP10 which reverts to physical controller because it requires a constant bluetooth connection?

Is it really that dumb?

I can't find even the most basic information on how one is supposed to wirelessly control an MP10. I assume if I uninstall the app from my phone (or even just turn off bluetooth like it normally is off), I can go back to using the physical controller, but I'm hoping the wireless has options I'm not understanding.

I work as a computer systems engineer for a living, been doing it for a long time. This is not some luddite problem on my end. I'm astonished at how bad the documentation and user experience is here.

If this thing can't use WiFi and requires a bluetooth computer of some sort (cell phone, etc.) to be within bluetooth range (with the mobius app installed on the device) to control it, this is absolutely useless to me. Is it really that bad- is that what's going on here?

Here are a few videos from Ecotech:

Once you have the pump on your reef tank in Mobius, just tap the little waves on the bottom bar. There is a timeline on the left and different options on the right.

My question is whether this app requires a bluetooth connection to the device to work after setup. I have no device that I can dedicate to my aquarium to set beside it with bluetooth on, and almost no smart devices work this way, as it doesn't allow remote control from elsewhere in the world, etc.

But that is how this thing seems to be. If not, I can'd find any relevant info. Those videos don't cover it.

I think this answers my question:

He claims you use the app to program the pump, and once you've done that, the pump keeps doing what you told it to (the settings continue to live on the pump whether there is a bluetooth device around or not). I'm not sure that's the behavior I'm seeing though, which is a separate question and owing to the terrible UI in the app.

I can confirm that’s how it works. You set your program and save it and it’ll do its thing. The only time I need to use the app now is when I put the pumps on feed mode.

Yep, local Bluetooth to program it. Then it works on its own.

There are rumors of WiFi connectivity coming in the future, with a Radion g5 functioning as the hub to the cloud.

Reefers need an open standard to avoid vendor lock in (eg. you gotta buy our light if you want to control our pumps remotely).

Anyways, got it sorted.
