I recently bought a used MP10w. I just got it at work, and just to test it out I plugged it in and turned it on, but the impeller didn't move. I tried a few different modes and it ultimately did start moving, but nowhere near fast enough to move any water, nor consistently enough for me to feel like it is working as intended.

I can hear it trying to move the impeller, but it just simply doesn't move except for occasional small jerky movements. I then tried just turning the impeller with the wet side pulled away from the dry side and it doesn't move freely as I would expect it to. Shouldn't it spin freely? Is there a way to lubricate the wet side? Or is this occurring because I don't have it in water? Or do I have a defective unit?

Since you say you bought it used, it's most likely that the wetside is worn. First step is to disassemble it to see what is causing the binding. Propeller should turn freely.

I got a used MP40 last year that had this problem. The housing on the magnet in the wetside is worn out and the magnet will no longer spin properly and it was exactly as you described. You're going to need a new wetside.

Well, before I left the office I found instructions on how to disassemble the wetside, and let's just say that there was quite a bit of gunk built up in there. I wiped it down with a paper towel, reassembled it and presto, it turns, it actually varies its speed. Still not even 50% if I had to guess, but much better. I won't have time this evening, but I'll give it a good and propper cleaning and I think it will work just fine. There are still some encrusted bits in there to scrape out.

Thanks for the suggestions!!!

Terrific! Just be careful not to damage the ceramic bearing.
