Looking for others thoughts. I've always had my mp10s on the sides facing eachother. But have been considering putting them on the back wall facing forward for a cleaner look. Thoughts? Benefits? disadvantages?

I think it would create more random flow, especially on the Reef Crest and Lagoon modes. I'm experimenting with one MP1o on the side middle about ⅔ up the glass and one towards the bottom on the opposite side of my 40B to keep detritus suspended and for more random flow patterns.

mp10's are good for servicing about 12" in front of the pump....so back-placement should be at least as good as where you have them. (which is to say: probably in need of a third mp10....or other, different pump selection)

We have mp40s on the back wall in two cubic tanks at work. For us it's not possible to have them on the sides in those tanks because visitors could reach them there. I think it looks okey. And it's possible to hide them a bit more on the back wall compared to the sides. But I'm one of those guys that doesn't want any visible pumps in a display:)
These tanks are not that high flow, more pulsing waves.
I couldn't find any pictures on my phone with the pumps visible, I try to avoid those angles.. :) But here is one of the tanks. Two pumps, one in the middle behind the Euphyllia, and one smaller Jebao up to the left.

That is beautiful! How do I get a job where you work ;Hilarious

FWIW I have my gyre on the back wall and I really like how the flow works now. I think you will lose the classic back and forth wave motion of alternating pumps (that seems to be more about looking cool than moving water) but if you set them correctly you can probably do some pretty random points of turbulence.

When I first started in the hobby, I was an end-user. The four powerheads were split, two on the left, two on the right...all Koralias. I eventually switched to Vortechs and had one MP40 on the right and one on the left sides of the tank. I then went and visited a local reefers house who had a 180 with 10-12 powerheads all over the place....and an absolutely SPS packed tank....flow was the secret. This was further re-enforced by Dana Riddle's MACNA 2016 talk where one premise was increased flow.

So I now run two MP40's on the left side wall, two MP40's and one MP10 on the back wall....Oh, a five foot 90 gallon tank.
