I setup a frag tank (deep blue 34gal rimless). I will be keeping acro frags in it and sps combined. Thinking of getting 2 ecotech pumps, but not sure if I should spend the extra on the mp40. I'm hesitating getting the mp10 due to future upgrade limitations (in case I upgrade the 34 tank to something bigger). With the mp40 my concern is that it may be too strong.

Any advice for those who have used an mp40 on a smaller tank would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

If your frags are "typical" in size and you don't have grow-out plans, then it shouldn't be too hard a tank to flow.

25 mini-colonies will be a different story.

(Just an idea: Try a couple of Tunze 6040's, one in each rear corner. $280 total.)

You can always dial down an mp40. I had an mp10 on my old solana 34g and it was more than enough. I grew acros and montis.

thanks for your reply. Since I have an apex and wxm I only want to consider an ecotech pump at this time or one that is compatible without me having to purchase more modules. Would 2 Mp40's dialed down be too much for the 34gal frag? Anyone know the minimum GPH of the MP40?

I would go with mp40s, heck I have a mp10 on a 34 gallon cube that is freshwater tetras that is set at 80% and they are totally fine.

In reef world I like a TON of flow, less needed for frags but need a crazy amount for SPS colonies.

Think lowest mp40 goes is 1000gph.

Just get one mp40. Why would you get two? Would be a waste of money. Just wait until you upgrade the tank and get another then.

thanks all for your suggestions. I will try the the 1 mp40 and upgrade to another if necessary later. Thanks!

I would go with a MP-40. It will give you everything you'll need for flow and the future. Better too much than not enough;)
