Hey guys,

I am curious about the MP10 breaking tanks. There is a lot on the subject if you google it, and my buddy had his IM 24G tank crack in the corner about 2 weeks ago. Since then I have inherited the MP10 and placed it on my IM 16G tank.

After using the MP10 for a week I can tell that it can cause a tremendous amount of vibration in the tank especially if you don't have it lined up correctly. I can get rid of most of the vibration by moving the inside prop around but I can't seem to get rid of it completely.

Here's my questions.

A) Is there a vibration pad that vortech makes that will help with this?

B) Should I scrap the MP10 and go with a jebao? My other friend has one and it seems to not vibrate at all, its also a lot cheaper.

C) Buy the MP10 from him for $120 cause its such a good deal and put it on a bigger tank?

Thanks guys.

John

A little vibration is normal but it should be very little and I had 2 on my Nuvo 16 they didn't cause any issues and the tank did not crack

There a rubber gasket. The vibration shouldnt cause any damage when the unit is aligned correctly. I just purchased two used mp40's and I didnt have the rubber gasket and aligned nicely and the vibration is minimal. Only issue is I have to go get the rubber gasket just to prevent my dry sides from sliding down.

If the tank cracks, there are a few things I would blame it on beforehand. After all, when you put a regular powerhead on the glass the motor is just on the inside of the glass rather than the outside. A tank that cracks while using these either is not level, put together efficiently or the powerhead may not be aligned which causes a more pronounced vibration than it is supposed to.

Than if you combine these I am sure the chances of disaster increases.

Also, if you're using the wave mode. Ecotech says to make sure your tank is capable of handling that kind of wave motion, because some tanks aren't built for that.

There's a foam bit which is permanently affixed to the backside of the wet frame; nothing that is replaceable/repairable.

Take it apart and see what could be cuasing the vibration and also try rotating the wet side in the tank i know it sounds weird but one of my wet sides Makes vibrations if it's not rotated in the right way. Also make sure you are looking directly at it when aligning the sides if your are looking at it at an angle it will look aligned but might be off quite a bit I usually go be sound not by site when u align mine the quieter it gets the closer it is to being aligned
