So my cycle is just about over and i still can't make up my mind on what powerhead to run, can someone help me out? I plan on having a mixed reef tank, LPS dominate. I love ACANS haha... My other tank i have I'm running 2 MP10s(30x30x16) but i feel that the Deep Blue 80(48x24x16) tank might be better with gyres? Any suggestions would be awesome. I will post pictures of the tank shortly.

2 MP40's would be more appropriate for that size imo. I haven't used a gyre so I can't offer an informed opinion but I do love the concept and the tanks I've seen them on all look great.

i have the same dilemma right now... anyone else like to chime in

So i went with one gyre 230.. and I LOVE IT. I have it on the opposite side of my return to create random turbulence. And the flow is amazing

I have the same tank (lots of acans too) and have been afraid to pull the trigger on a gyre so I have been running an mp10 and mp40 on the end panel opposite the overflow. My mp10 went down last week and I am trying to decide whether to go with a second mp40 or go with a gyre after all. I do like the ability to run 2 pumps out of sync for turbulence but so many people say how great the flow is from the gyre. Still dont know what to do, oh well, decisions, decisions.

I would't recommend the mp10. I have a 57gal deep blue tank and the mp10 has a hard time sticking to the glass. I think the best would be the gyres or the mp40s.

My Acans love the flow from the gyre, i have it on random pulse and Ive never seen them happier

It's a bit of a mute point as the OP already selected the Gyre however if anyone is considering an MP 10 for a Deep Blue 80 gal I run one on mine and it sticks to the glass with no issue whatsover. I think the 57 gal from deep blue is a taller tank and requires thicker glass creating the issue but for the shorter 80 gal the mp 10 will work just fine.

I run a gyre 150 and 3 jebao wp10 in my deep blue shallow 80. Gyre from one side and the wp10s on the back to front. All set on a different pulse pattern to keep it turbulent. Works well for my needs

Plz excuse the reflection but here's a top down shot to show how things are doing. (Pumps off for photo, way to much flow to even try lol)

did you get the gyre with the controller? how quiet is it compared to your mp10?

Thanks! I'll get a sump shot tonight. A few things changed under there. That was from when first setup and tank was still cloudy.

Been absent for quite some time but thought I would bring this back for an update or further discussion if any one else is interested in contributing. For me I've had some ups and downs but have renewed my quest, still running the Vortec 40/10 combo but seriously revisiting the Gyre pump. Holding out for a bit as I see there is a new version.

Currently running 2 gyre 230s on alternating gyre mode. I love the gyres! I had a mp40 on the tank but it was way too much flow... when the new gyres come out I will probably put my current 230s on the frag tank and run some new generation 250s on my 80 gallon

Tortuga, what percentage are you running them power wise? I'm running an MP 40 and MP 10, flow seems OK but have too many dead spots. Sounds like the Gyres will take care of any dead spots. Im mostly LPS so a ton of flow is not really the goal just good movement everywhere.
