Hello
Thank you for the kinda words and compliments

. My tank is 72 long 24 deep and 34 inches tall. (Not fond of that since I have tiny arms. But I have about 200 pounds of live sand and maybe 180-190 pounds of live rock. I actually only had 100 pounds of live rock when I started because I moved from a 125-240. So the other rock was dry base rock that went on the very bottoms as base structures. My tank has been running a little over 9 months so it has grown quickly.
I use two current usa orbit marine pros (these are the powerful ones 60 degree lens not the 90 degree or ic loop version) for lights with brights at 50% and blues 100. I tried three and it was just way way way too much light it was extreme overkill. So have a third in the closet taking up space.
For wave makers I have four current eflux 2100 all on separate manifolds so I can control each one the way I want to with one remote. Lots and lots of cords and at first a wiring nightmare but after the first time it’s super easy. I also just added because I was offered to beta test it an ice cap 3k gyre that sits on the back glass.
For return pumps I have one for each over flow and those are the current dc 3100 gph return pumps and they definitely move some water. I do suggest dual returns pumps it has made life well easier for me. There is a lot of pipe so one was plenty but had to run it above 50% which I wasn’t fond of. By running two it increased my flow drastically but they only run at 20% if that.
The skimmer is a eshopps s-300 and although very sensitive it works great. I also have a current usa sump light but can’t remeber which one. My sump is a terrible design and is also why I love the dc returns. Before I knew better it didn’t have very many chambers or baffles to slow the water down enough to filter. With me turning the returns down enough I can force it to go slow. Also make sure you pick the right sump ahhh before you put it in and fill the tank up. Mine won’t come out and well kinda stuck with it.
I haven’t had very many issues and my build thread or kinda everything thread is Urgh seriously lol. But it covers a lot on my tank. If I could do the 240 over again I wouldn’t change equipment at all. I would throw the sump in the trash and start over lol. I have made lots of coves in my tank to give it I guess depth and it worked out very well.
I would leave enough room for you to go behind the tank to address issues or add things if needed. I left about a foot and I’m a very small girl and it’s barely enough room. I would also now that I see it would have had a separate place for all the cords and power supplies to go. As well as I bought my home before my tank was put in. But I would have had an electrician come in and wire in different wall outlets as well as raise the fuse capacity. It works fine now but yeah lol makes me a little nervous using like four power strips and they are maxed out.
I’m still thinking about having an electrician maybe come in and install a separate circuit just for my tank. This would
Be kinda of a chore but having him install like two or three feet off the ground something that cords can lay on or route through but then have a line of like 30 or More outlets in a row. Then have them tied into one main circuit but from that have it split into four sections. One for lights, one for wave makers and returns, one for the skimmer and heaters and maybe one for anything else we add. I’m going to have a 425 still and this is part of my plan for that one as well. Once that comes in and is ready I can move my 240 stuff into it temporarily until that is built. I don’t wanna break down my 240 so still chewing on that. I will have to take lots and lots of pics so I can set the aquascape back the way it was. But running the 425 is going to have quite a bit more components and I’m actuslly possibly going to use my third car garage that’s totally empty as the sump section. It just seems so much easier when adding or doing water changes and any work. Plus the water going through the pipes is the loudest part of my tank. (It’s not that and actually but I want my tank where I can stand in front of it or on the couch and not hear anything. I was successful equipment wise lol not sooo much sump wise.
But if you have any other questions by all means please feel free to ask.
Sincerely
Sarah
