Im planning to upgrade my jebao pump into something that will last longer and im looking at an mp40. I have lps mostly with 2 sps frags, i was wondering if 1 mp40 would be enough for the tank? Or should i get 2? I have a gyre icecap 1k as well, would those 2 be too much running at the same time? Im planning to upgrade to a 90 in the future thats why i didnt go for the mp10s.

Thank you
Picture of my tank is attached below

One of my tanks is a 40B and two MP10s are plenty of flow. I run them about 80% reefcrest mode.

MP40s would be throwing water out of the tank.

ps. buy a third wetside. easier to always keep them clean that way. Soak one in citric acid (not vinegar) overnight and you always have flow and redundancy.

I run 2 MP40s on my 57 gallon which has the same 36x18 footprint as a 40 breeder and it’s 4” taller. They run at 50% ReefCrest in antisync mode. That said, I would think for now, you would definitely be able to get away with your IceCap Gyre 1000 on one side of the tank with one MP40 on the other. However, once you upgrade to the 90 gallon tank, I would definitely recommend getting a second MP40.

Since my tank is a bit shorter, id assume i should use only around 30-40℅ right? Because im planning to place it at the opposite side with my gyre, i dont want to splash the water out of the tank

By a 3rd wetside he means having a spare wetside assembly so all maintenance required is done by swapping the spare for the one in the tank and cleaning it. If one breaks you swap out the spare instantly.

Water will not splash out of the tank. I would keep it at 20% but mainly because the extra flow isn't needed.

Sorry, I didn't write that real clear but @NeonRabbit221B clarified.

I also didn't realize you had a gyre pump. In that case, 2 MPs are overkill. IMO for a 40B, and MP40 is overkill. That said, when you upgrade size (which we all end up doing eventually) the MP10 won't be big enough to do much, whereas the MP40 will do nicely.

If i ever pairing it w my gyre is when 1 mp40 wouldnt provide enough circulation around the tank, because my tank has all hob gear w no sump, im planning to get 1 mp40s now and buy a 2nd one later one

Thank you, do you have any reccommendation on the placement if i ended up pairing with my gyre? Should it be better to place them on the same side or opposite from each other like what im doing w my jebao rn?
