Hey Everyone,

I've been reading reviews on the ecotech mp40. Some of the older reviews mention that they can tend to fall off on 3/4" thick aquariums. The tank I am having built could be made in 5/8" if eurobraced or in 3/4" for rimless. I'm still trying to make my mind up about about going rimless so I wanted to see what you guys' experiences have been with the mp40s on thicker glass.

Thanks for the info!

2 MP40s on 3/4" rimless glass here. You just need to make very sure the initial contact is holding prior to powering the powerhead on. Then kind of keep an eye on things for the first couple hours. They're fantastic pumps and I'd definitely recommend them but I did have one fall off about 30 minutes after initial power on. Smacked the wall pretty hard on the fall but luckily nothing broke. I reattached and placed a couple safety ties above the powerheads. Just the one hiccup but other than that my experience has been great!

Confirmed, I also have two MP40s on 3/4" thickness. Neither has fallen yet. Probably a good idea to have it ziptied just in case though.

Thanks good to know! I had mp10s on my last tank and I loved them. Do you both have the quiet drive model? Are they actually quiet?

Can depend a bit on the mode you run. As you approach max thickness for any of the models, they may be less tolerant of higher torque modes like pulse. I’ve run MP40 on 3/4” walls on reef crest with no problems. Change to pulse at 100% and the wetside can pop off. Make sure to support the dryside properly.

What type of support would you suggest on the dry side I have MP40 on 3/4 I just got it about 2 weeks ago great pump so far

Oh I thought you meant there was something to prevent the dry side from falling, the one little sticky Cord holder I got is useless I put it on and it barely sticks

Make sure the surface is clean and then they stick well. Usually, i have to razor blade them off.

Great feedback everyone. Thanks for the info. This brings going with a rimless tank back in as an option since I really don't want to have to go up to the mp60s.

1 thing I will say Eco Tech customer service is good I have radions and the MP40 and any time I’ve had a problem or question their easy to deal with

I know this is an old thread. I have a 3/4 glass tank and I am not having much luck getting MP40s wetside to stay anytime it is over 40%

Anyone have any tips? I have cleaning and scrapping glass very good. The tank is 7ft long so I need to run more than 40%

What spacer are you using? Mine did this for a while until I changed the spacers.
