I'm stuck between these two, I can get the 4k for $199 and the mp40 for normal retail $350 if memory serves me correct.

I have a mixed reef, 40g breeder, but upgrading to a 100-150g in the next six months. So it's overkill for now but not after the upgrade.

I have 9 more sps coming in next month thanks to @TCK Corals live sale and want to upgrade before then. Anyone want to share their thoughts?

I think it's best to think longer term about what your requirements will be in the next six months and a lot will come down to budget and personal preference. There are pro's and cons to each I guess.

My ice cap gyre made a whirring noise that made me insane so I replaced it with MP10 quiet drives - so I ended up spending more and using the ice cap as a salt water mixer.... If you don’t mind extremely irritating sounds the ice cap gyre should be fine ;)

Gyres get clogged quickly and are a pain to clean them every some time. For MP40s, they are quieter and don’t make heat in the tank.

I have a Vortech in my current tank, but have bought two XF330's for my new tank and heard they were very silent in the reviews I looked at online. Afraid I can't comment on how they perform yet though.
