MP40 OR Maxspect xf230

Which one would you suggest for a red sea 350 and why
Both are great pumps, but i'm more favorable of the MP40 for one simple reason. No cords in the tank. All the cords and the motor sit outside the tank so you don't get any of that heat transfer, or if the pump ever fails you won't have the electrical leak into the tank. With that being said they do have a downfall, and that is that the MP40 and MP60's are prone to having the magnet housing crack and starting to rust, but with regular maintenance and inspection they can last a long time :) Myself I use a pair of MP10's on my tank, and love them.

I agree with @Crabs Mcjones but will add two things

One the MP's have an issue with the wet side magnet failing and this is a regular occurrence. What happens is the magnet on the wet side plastic covering the magnet cracks over time and rust, which then needs to be replaced. The rusting cause problems with corals dying if not caught soon enough. For the MP-40 this is a $84.00 expense to replace the wet side.

I have had my maxspect Gyres 130's for over 2 years and have had one issue, that was I had to replace the businging on the ends because the wore out. I replaced the old 130 propellers and cages with the new 23o propellers and cages for $50.00 plus shipping.

To sum it up I like the gyre's better. I run my gyre near the top of the tank, so the wire in not an issue. The new gyres have a great controller but until Maxspect gose wifi with the controller it is a little bit of a pain to set.

One still has to get a module to run with controllers but I decide not to get the modules.

I have the Ice cap version of 230 (I think) and only ran for a couple weeks it was noisy and was told it needed to break in, and it did get better. I have a Mp40 and love it and the con is a large wart on the side of the tank, as my wife points out! Now this has my interest
