I am underway with my build and have been researching flow- in my old system I ran a tunze wave maker box with multiple static power heads and strong return.

I decided I like the MP40 power heads for clean look and reputation. So I just ordered 2 of them for my display
I have a 65gal with corner overflow- dimensions are 36 across, 18 deep 24 tall- planning an island aquascape and going primarily sps with some lps- was thinking of 1 on opposite end of overflow sending water down back of tank towards the overflow and 1 in front opposing. My pan world return pump will return across rear of tank forward- does this sound like enough flow and what settings do you recommend for mp40’s- planning to control them with my apex-

Wow, two MP-40s May be way overkill. I use two MP-10s on my 36” 65 G, one on each side. But I suppose you could turn them down so the sand doesn’t blow. I have the slave in opposite sync and use the lagoon mode, just over 50% for my mixed reef.

I agree, 2 may be over kill. Especially since your tank is almost as tall as it is long. You will definitely want to tone them down flow wise. Reef crest and nutrient export mode seem to be 2 very popular flow patterns from what I've researched. You will have to play with the flow rate as to not continually blow your sand everywhere.

Thanks for the info- I guess I should of asked before I hit buy [emoji18]. At least I know I will have enough.

I was thinking of setting one in short mode to generate a wave across the tank and one in reef crest maids for turbulent water- then both to lagoon mode overnight- and Fred mode for feeding obviously.
Does this sound crazy?

I don’t even have it wet yet, I plan a coarse sand to help eliminate that as much as possible. I am not a fan of crushed coral look-

I know already I have a bigger tank in my future- I bought this tank for the supporting equipment that came with it and the boss fell in love with the look. So I have to start here. I am already eyeing a 220 as a possible 2nd Dt on the system. So I can always find a place for these if they are overkill.

I have a reefer 250 and went with mp40s over mp10s for a few reasons.

1: The glass is 1/2" thick so the mp10s may have some issues with connection. Many have mp10s on their RSR250 with no issues, but I didn't feel like making it a possible issue.

2: I would rather run my mp40s at a lower speed rather than maxed out. Currently the max I run them is 25% in NTM.

3: If I decided to upgrade I won't have to worry about flow since these will suffice for a bigger tank.
