So I have an MP40 QD and I took the wet side off to clean it. Well, the dry side (which I have three zip tie anchor things on the side of the tank) fell and the zip tie anchors came off the glass and it fell into my auto top off bin...

has anyone every gotten the DRY side motor wet? I’m curious if it can get wet or not. It sat in about 4 inches of water for like a half hour. I’m about to go get a bag of rice to sit it in for a day. Any suggestions?

I’ve dropped my dry side into a bucket of salt water. If nothing got shorted you should be fine.
I actually soaked mine in RODI after it fell in saltwater and I took it apart as much as I could and let it bake in the hot sun for 2 days. Reassembled it and it worked like nothing happened.

I’d make sure you at least expose the stator coils and circuit on it and sit it in front of a fan for a couple days. Let it fully dry out. It should be fine

If it fell into 0 TDS RO/DI then you might be okay, but half an hour is a long time. Usually as the water evaporates it leaves deposits on the board that prevent it from working correctly. Was it plugged in when it fell? Taking it apart the best you can and cleaning it might be your best bet.

Thankfully it was not on when it fell in, and it was RODI water. It was making a weird noise last night to I turned it off and it hasn’t been on since. I went ahead and unplugged the power source from the Apex too to make sure no power gets to it. So I can take it apart?

I don't know to what degree they can be dissembled, hopefully someone can chime in. Using a high concentration of isopropyl alcohol on a cotton tip applicator to clean components has usually worked well for me in the past

They can be disassembled pretty far to expose all the bare motor parts and wire coils

Better falling into RODI than SW ..... neither ideal though LOL. Don’t think rice will be sufficient; I agree with the advice to take it apart and dry as much as you can then shoot a fan at it for a while. I’ve taken the old MP40 drysides apart, but not the QD versions. I’m sure it’s doable though. Very little delicate electronics inside .... just a motor.

Thanks for all of the replies! I will disassemble tonight and dry for a day with a fan and test it on Wednesday. I’ll let you know if it works!

I dropped a expensive LED light into my salt water, I used RO/DI water to rinse it off. I think you'll be fine just dry it off.
