I am thinking about buying the MP40 I have read that wet side needs replacing quite often I think there is a new modle with less problems is this so and if i go to my local fishstore which has them in stock how do I know if its the new modle any info will be greatly appreciated.

I too have heard, through the grapevine, that they have changed the impeller design. With the old design, the impeller was removable from the shaft, while with the new design, it is permanently fixed. Only time will tell if this extends the life of the wetside.

That being said, I believe what helps preserve the wetside is not running the PH at full, and also cleaning frequently. I have wetsides that are coming up to three years old (fingers crossed).

I have one of the old style going on three years with the original wet side as well. It runs on reef crest mode near full output and I clean it every couple months.

I have an MP40W that's just about 2.5 years old. Wet side has never given me an issue. I've run it in Reef Crest mode, 100% power since day 1.

As mentioned, cleaning is a key here. I clean mine once every 2 months.

On another note, the bearings in the dry side do tend to get noisy over time. This is an easy fix if you can DIY, and costs less than $20.

I believe they came out with the new wet side design over 2 years ago, and branded the pump "MP40W Gen2".
