Hi everyone. My MP40 developed a loud humming/ clicking sound in the outside drive motor. Not the typical misalignment or dirty wet side noise we all know and occasionally fix - this is different and can't be solved with either of my 2 wet sides. I contacted ecotech and was informed to send in for repairs. Has anyone done this? I'm concerned how long and how expensive this might be, including the fact I will need to purchase something else to get by. Just wondering if anyone else has had this experience and how it turned out

Most likely the bearings. Their are tutorials on YouTube showing how to replace them.
Ok I'll go take a look. Been trying to ween myself off YouTube - tend to get lost there for too long

Good luck. Be prepared to recieve one of these stickers reguardless of condition.

If it's under warranty, I'd send it back to Ecotech. Otherwise I'd be skeptical because of stories like the one above where you get it back claiming it's water damaged.

Now assuming this is an old-school MP40 (not a QD), as stated, there are a number of links talking about how to do this. I'll also link my story about doing an MP10....same as a 40, but smaller (and different bearings.) The worst part about replacing the bearings is knowing what you paid for it and now are totally defacing it. Otherwise it was a fun little project that cost around 20 bucks.

HERE's MY LINK to our local club site and unfortunately because of age the pictures are gone.

This is what I want to know. I don't want to get trapped over something I can repair and I'm wondering what happens when the motors are returned for repairs. Thanks for sharing - very helpful

For my experience they returned the pump to me after I declined their offer to purchase a replacement at a reduced cost. So I was not trapped.

I repaired it myself for $0.00 exactly as I had explained it to them. This pump was still under warranty at the time. They claimed that water damage was the cause hence the reduced cost replacement solution offered. It never saw water that was totall malarkey and I am still using it today... after I fixed it myself.

Sean, you're kill me! What did you have to do to fix it AND what did they do to it to "disable it for safety reasons", and how did you fix this disability, whatever they did?

Thanks for info. It is an MP40QD. I should have included that detail. Unit man. In mid. 2019. I'm pretty sure I can swap out bearings but I'm not so sure I can restore the NVH performance correctly. I'm already getting the stink eye from family about the sudden noise :)

Can I sensored and not sensored? But seriously... I am not the only one.

Sorry for not addressing all of the questions. They just unpluged the connector to "disable" it.

I don't think I've ever heard of Ecotech changing bearings or telling anyone what bearings to use in a DIY repair. They will surely sell you a new dry side though.

I've done bearings on non QD MP40s. It took a hydraulic press and some ingenuity to get them off and the new ones on. Can be a hard core DIY.

I should be able to press bearings off/on without too much problem. I'm going DIY.
thanks everyone for their input
