MP40 vs Nero 5

I wonder if BLE over TCP and a Bluetooth bridge would get around this. I have a Nero 3 on the way and may need to mess around with this.

I've never heard of that! If you give it a go, post about it! I'm interested to know how it works, and if you're able to have control over all the options that you do in the app. For now, I just have mine plugged into a smart plug. That way I can at least turn it off while I'm away.

I have one now and it's fine but I can't find a good anemone guard for it. Both the Nero 5 and MP40 have good options. One, they have other benefits as well

There is, the IceCap is confirmed working somewhere here on Reef2Reef.

I don't think the Ice cap will last very long. The battery is 8x smaller then the battery in the Vortech. 3 hours or so is practically useless.

Sounds like you get more time than that out of it and can add two batteries for more time.

Has anyone confirmed it works with the Ecotech? The difference between the IceCap V2 and the Ecotech is 24 vs 12v, so it sounds like you can't use the Ecotech unless it's auto switching. The V3 IceCap supports 12-24V. I see Marine Depot says the Ecotech battery is auto switching as well but it's not on Ecotechs site.

It would be nice if the battery backup from Ecotech worked with their own products but I can see Ecotech potentially locking you out of using their AI stuff just to sell the more expensive stuff.

I’ve used both and the Nero is far and above my favorite. The cords are thin and easy to manipulate. The form is compact and hides well. Bonus you can magnet to your overflow. Aside from the battery back up of ecotech, the Nero is quieter and pushes a better flow pattern for me and my preferences.

What did you go for eventually? Looking for myself and not sure if its MP-40 or AI5.. MP-40 will cost an arm and a leg so Looking at alternatives...

I dont have an MP40 for comparison, but my nero 5 is awesome. Very smooth wide flow pattern, can push water all the way across my 120 easily, with good undertow effect. Gonna get a second one and set up a standing wave and put a nero 3 in the back to aim directly at my mound of SPS .
