There are no sealed compartments in an MP40 wetside, correct? Looks like there are normal holes in the housing, would just like to confirm :)

Thanks!

There shouldn't be :) I believe those holes are so tank water can get back there to ace as lubricant and heat disbursement. At least that's the way my mp10 wetside is set up

Nope, it all gets wet. On the negative side, small snails, serpent stars, and various other critters get inside too. I have to take mine apparent fairly regularly to remove tiny snails.

I'd also suggest that you don't vinegar wash the magnet portion of the wet side. I had to replace three wet sides because the magnet cover opened, causing the magnet to rust and swell...trashing the wet side. Now the only thing I vinegar soak is the cage. The rest just gets rinsed in water.

When you say magnet cover, you mean some magnet coating?

Really? I've vinegar soaked all my wet sides for years, only had one magnet split open on me in the 6 years I've had my vortechs.

What makes you associate the vinegar with the cause of this?

From Dr. Randy:

I think the effect on plastic may be worse with vinegar than muriatic acid but it may depend on the plastic.

Vinegar can be in the form of acetic acid and that neutral molecule can enter plastic. Diluted muriatic acid won't have any neutral acidic molecules in it to enter plastic, so just exposes the outermost leading edge of plastic. So while the muriatic acid after dilution is a much stronger acid, i would not assume it is worse on plastics.

FWIW, I've used diluted muriatic acid for decades as have others, and I've not heard of cords being damaged, but I've also not inspected them closely.
