Mp40

The 75 gallon I had was 12 mm (3/8 inch) glass.

The problem with Vortech pumps is that their bearings were not manufactured to take lateral forces. If you could, set the MP40 to the next lower glass thickness, and make sure the wetside still functions. You also want to make sure you use the little attachments that will hold the dryside if it lets go. This may quiet it down a bit.

If you’re a bit handy, you might want to try replacing the bearings. I don’t want to post the link here, because it’s on another site, but I will sent you a PM with that link.

Do you know how old they are? You may want to contact Ecotech. They're very helpful even with old & out of warranty products.

Just bought two mp-40's used and there very loud any advice how to quite them down and what thickness would you suggest have
Ing them on for a 75g tank. Thanks for the help.

MP40S are a little louder when brand new and will quiet down some... They are louder than most other internal pumps because they are not inside thank where the water will absorbs some of the sound. Plus they have to work a little harder since they are not direct drive and have to work a little harder to work through the glass. If you expect them to be as quiet as other pumps that wont happen.

Not running them at full speed also helps.

Also not running them on the different pulse modes can help.. You wont hear the wining of them speeding up and slowing down.
