I just installed two MP40QDs on my tank. Both are brand new. One is completely silent and the other has a fairly significant bearing noise at all speeds and modes. My question is, is this normal? Should I expect the noise to go away after it has broken in? The noise is coming from the dry side and I have tried to adjust the wet side to reduce the noise with no avail.

I'm going to ask ignorant questions because I still have the noisy 40's, and don't know if QD's are the same.

Do you still have to adjust the dry side for glass thickness? And if so, is that "right?"

Do they still use the rubber disc between the dry side and the tank glass? And is that there?

And finally, what I'd do just to verify dry side being the problem is to switch wet sides and see if that one dry side is still making noise. Otherwise, I'd contact Ecotech.

Good Questions...

1. Yes, there are now different discs that you use to compensate for glass thickness. I do have the appropriate disc on the unit.
2. Yes, there is still a runner disc and it is there as well.
3. I have switched wet sides as you suggested and it makes no difference. I have sent Ecotech an email. We will see what their suggestions may be.

Please keep us informed. I've always found their customer service to be pretty good.

also look at dismantling the wet side, something my not be line up correctly, the hardest part is separating the the impeller assembly. I use the butter knife to get under the three tiny clips the hold the assembly to the back of the wet side base. do not pry to mush or you the break off the clip things:)

I am having the same issue with mine one is silent the other makes a slight hissing sound. It isn't very loud but it does worry me a little that it might get louder. They have been running a few months now tho and it hasn't gotten any worse.

I'm 99% sure it isn't the wet side. I swapped wet sides with the one that is silent and the unit still makes the same noise.

I'll let you guys know what I hear from Ecotech. With it being a holiday weekend I don't expect to hear anything until Monday at the earliest.

Good luck tomorrow

Same issue here...
One pump is completely silent and the other one makes like a rubbing bearing sound even at low speed like 30%.
Pump in warranty to be checked.
