MP40s or ReefWaves?

They last
Longevity known and factored
Resale high..

Should I continue??

Last MP-10 wet side I bought from BRS lasted about a month before the impeller shaft snapped at the base. Hadn't even been out of the tank yet lol

I have had the same experience with the MP10s. I have gone through 4 wetsides in 6 months. To the credit of ecotech, I have constantly gotten great support from their help line. However, the MP10 wetsides just don't last. The pump is amazing when it works! Love the flow, love the programming, the clean look of no wires in the tank, I just can't get them to last. I have walked through my setup with their customer service to ensure that I am cleaning them properly and doing the correct break in. Every time the conclusion has been the same, "The product was defect and they would send me a new wetside".

The ceramic shaft is super flimsy! Once that goes the pump is useless (you will know because the pump will start to vibrate on the glass). I personally have not found a way to successfully repair the ceramic shaft (believe me I have tried).

I have no experience with the MP40s. I have heard that these are built better and the ceramic shaft is much thicker and less likely to break. But for the MP10s, the ceramic shaft is the weak point.

I personally have just ordered a ReefWave 25 to replace my two MP10s in my Red Sea Reefer 170. Just thought that I would throw in my $0.02 as I myself have been trying to scour these forums looking to see if anybody has shared my same experience. Looks like I am not alone with the MP10 experience.

Can't speak on all gyres, but I've had my icecap 3k for about 9 months or so, and have only cleaned it once. Never had an issue with it

This is my experience as well, the ceramic shaft is the weak point. Anyone ever tried running a wetside without the ceramic shaft?

As far as fixing / replacing the MP-10 ceramic shaft, I have found that shrink wrap works very well. See @Jonreefer
Broken shaft on an MP10..fix it for pennies.

Thank you for sharing this! I definitely have to try this out
