So who has made the switch from mp40's to the new gyres (350's)? I currently have 4 mp40's on my tank and I'm thinking about switching two of them for gyres. My tank is 36x36x16. I have two 3/4" returns with VCA random flow generators (which I love) and two mp40's on the back wall and two on each side (one on each side). It's a sps dominant tank, so flow is paramount. The flow going to the front of the tank is great, but the sides aren't as wide as I want them to be, so I was thinking about using two 350's on the sides to widen the flow.
Any thoughts, experience or advice would be appreciated.

First pic is current and the second pic shows the placement better.

Gyres work great. But they are a real pain to clean; so I almost never clean them. For the money, they are hard to beat if you have time to clean them. I'd rather have more mp40s but the $700 for a pair is hard to swallow.
Currently, I have 2 mp40s on the back wall and a gyre 250 on the end of a 60-inch tank.

I hear the new 300 series are easier to clean and maintain. Maintenance isn't a deal breaker for me. I could move the two on the back wall to the sides, but that will block even more of my view. That's why I was thinking gyre up high and out of the way?

They're a little bit harder to clean; but they're not THAT much harder to clean. Take them apart, bleach, scrub, rinse, soak in strong acid, rinse, lube o-rings, return. I've had one for 5+ years and was making a TON of noise Saturday night (the other 3 are 6 months old and were fine), so I took all four 250 gyres and 2 Jebaos out and soaked, cleaned returned in less than an hour. As long as you pay attention to the cage and impeller direction, it's not that big a deal. The problem is when the you throw a bunch of gyre parts together and have to figure out what side goes where... I wish gyre would label "L" and "R" etc... that would make it a LOT easier to reassemble. But once you figure out how everything goes together, it's no more work than any other pump.

I love my gyres and really don't see the pain that everyone speaks about with cleaning. Once a month when I'm scraping the glass down I soak them in vinegar and RODI for 20-30min. Then once everything three months take them apart, put on the extra parts that come with and clean the others for next swap. Can't beat the flow for the price.

I made the switch on one side of the tank so far from the MP40 to the Gyre 350. I love the flow and will be switching the other side as well. Not sure if I will keep the MP40s for the back wall or not but the gyre pushes so much water I may not need them.

What size tank do you have?
I’m setting up a 300dd and thinking of doing 350’s on the ends and two mp40’s on the back wall. Already have new mp40’s.

I have a 187. 60x30x24
I have them turned down, nothing over 50%
