I've got my noisy mp40wqd dry side torn down to the bearing and shaft and am having a heck of a time getting the bearings off. I assumed its be hard since they are press fitted but man are these things on there!

I've tried placing the bearing side in a vice and tapping the shaft out with no luck.

Has anyone successfully removed these bearing on the newer mp40s? Looks pretty simple on the older models.

Sure wish eco tech would sell a bearing /shaft replacement combo already pressed together. There isn't much else you can screw up on disassembly on these guys.

The last thing you should do is tap on the shaft, it could mushroom the end of it and make the removal of the bearing impossible. Also, put some peices of leather or plastic between your vice jaws and the part so you don't damage it. Thread a bolt into the shaft so you don't damage the threads in it and use a bearing puller to get the bearing off.

Also, to put the new bearing on, use a peice of pipe or a socket that will fit over the shaft but is small enough to make complete contact with the inner bearing race to tap it back into place.

Another tip; if the bearing doesn't have play but is just noisy you can carefully pop the seal out of the side with picks and small screwdriver and repack it with grease. Then pop the seal back in.

Here's a video for pulling the bearings on an older style MP10 where they used a builder's square...at around 2:10 minute mark:

Now when I replaced the bearings in mine, I couldn't fit my builder's square between the bearing and motor. So what I did was clamp the bearing in vice grips and then opened my bench vice wide to support the vice grips, and now tapped the motor shaft using a wood dowel (in contact with the shaft) and a hammer.

The original dahenley post on RC, he used two screwdrivers (and a bearing puller)...."you will need to get your bearings off the shaft without breaking or chipping your black magnet outer cover. you can not buy this part if anything happens or you break it.
i used 2 screw drivers and i was able to pop off the bearings.
i also got a cheap Bearing press off E b a y and it will work just as good. (harbor Freight didnt have a small one in my area....)
"........see post # 2 HERE.

So amazon turned out to have the cheapest small bearing puller I could find. $20 bucks shipped w/prime.

I found to some quality 608z (double shielded) bearing replacements locally @ H&H bearings in Garden Grove, CA. They were $4 each.

Assembly was difficult since it had been weeks since I pulled it apart. After some trial and error I got it back together.....and it's just as quiet as the good mp40wqd! Barley audible at 100%

$28 to repair. That's about 13% of the replacement. Worth the effort for sure

Tools needed:
-Regular Phillips screw driver
-Small Philip's screw driver
- x2 Small flat head screw driver
-2x 4mm Allen wrench

Thanks for this update for the QD drysides. You've answered the million dollar question....the bearing on the QD's are different than the old drysides. So both sides are the same bearing? If I remember correctly, the old (non-QD) drysides had two different bearings....a 7mm on one side, an 8mm on the other.

Actually just went and looked them up....
607-2RS Bearing 7 x 19 x 6
698-2RS Bearing 8 x 19 x 6

Thanks again.

Yes both sides were marked with NMB 608z. Shields on both sides.
