I’ve never used Ecotech Vortechs before.

I got two new MP60s and turned them on for the first time.

They were making a really loud vibration/grinding noise at first until I started moving the motor around to aline the wet side up better. I got the noise level down but it is still more noisy than I was expecting depending on the power level.

The glass I have it mounted on is 3/4 and painted.

Any tricks to getting these things quiet?

I've noticed a considerable reduction in noise after running my MP40 for a few weeks. The break in period is real.

That said, if I crank mine up to 100% there's still a pretty audible hum. Running it around 50% in a 32" tank and it's barely audible from 5 feet away unless I really listen for it.

if they're anything like the MP10's the alignment is super sensitive. something like a 1/8-1/16'th off is the difference between quiet and noisy.
If you can crank it up to full when you align it. makes it easier to find the sweet spot IMO.
also read the directions about the spacers, i;m not sure which is required when, but i know that they make a difference also.

You have to align them by feel because of the diffraction of the glass

First, make sure you are using the correct spacer. Then with the motor off, rotate the wetside in place until it feels like it 'catches'. Then start the motor, put your hand on the dryside and make small adjustments with the wetside position until the dryside vibrations are minimized. I did not personally ever observe a 'break in' period for these pumps, though over time they will tend to self align so perhaps that is what some ascribe to a break in period. The MP60 should be quiet but it is not silent.
