MP60 on a 20 gallon tank

I am getting a used MP60 from another reefer. My display tank (240g) is not yet set up, but I want to test it out when it arrives. I do have a 20 gallon QT set up with just water. Will that cause a giant mess if I mount it there to turn on? I can try to fill a 30g or a larger bin, but those are in use right now and it would be a pain to transfer the contents. I just don't know how powerful these things are in a smallish container of water.
