MP60 or Tunze 6255?

I'm in the process of upgrading to a 10' 560 gallon tank. The tank will be 10'x3'2.5' I currently have two MP60's on the current 8' Tank, but they are a few years old so I'm trying to decide between keeping them or switching out to Tunze 6255's. Anyone ran both? I have only had smalller Tunze nano pumps before.

I have both. Mp60 has broader gentler flow, but can’t project as far. 6255 has a stronger more narrow flow that projects farther. Obviously the tunze you can aim them wherever you want. Both can be programmed by apex but out of the box, mp60 has better control options. Total flow, I was surprised to see that the new mp60 is 9000gph. Seems like more than double the 6255. Both are quiet, but tunze probably very slightly quieter after breaking in.

6255 moves more water, I feel, but I have absolutely no idea how a manufacturer measures this stuff since some that say 4000 are blown away by others that say 1800. Velocity matters to me. Tunze probably live longer and the built in controller is fine, but EcoTech probably better with Apex, but I don't use a controller anymore. I don't care about how much water they can move next to the powerhead - I need them to move water down in the tank. Both have no issue with 1" acrylic.

Don't overlook Sea Sweep. They make the 6255 or 6155 really effective as they move them back and forth.

I got an ad that 6255 is like $399 today at BRS or somewhere.

New study on propeller pumps has some interesting findings! EcoTech vs Tunze?

Some of you may have read the article that was released today over at Advanced Aquarist that shows the output flow of propeller pumps and compares them. Couple things to note is that the EcoTech Vortech rated better that the manufacturer claim and the Tunze Pumps rated lower. Check it out...

Thanks for the replies. I already have the two Mp60's so maybe i'll just get new wetsides and see how they work. I can always change to Tunze later. Tunze said I can even mount a smaller one in the overflow as both sides of the magnet are water proof. Interesting Article on the actual flow....makes me think maybe staying with the MP60's is the way to go.

I never liked that article much since many have seen Tunze 6105 at least be the equal to a mp40 and there is no chance that they are less. They do have two different outlets that have different flow.

If you can still find one, AquaMedic EcoDrift 20.0 moves a lot of water too... just have been discontinued.

I don't think you'll be happy with the flow from only 2 MP60s in a 10' 560 gallon. Maybe that's not what you meant?

No I'll have more pumps off the back wall (2 or 3). I was trying to decide on keeping my MP60's Or move to Tunze 6255's for the 2 on the ends of the tank 10' apart.

Keep the MP60s for sure. I would not forsake either of those for the other if I had them already. ...just add to them.

Don't laugh at me, but a Mag 12 with the pond strainer will move more water than any of those. You ever used one as a powerhead? The are big and ugly, but do well in a pinch or while you are saving up money.
