I am seeking advice from those that have experience with large sumps and refugiums, specifically the MRC I sump series.

I am currently in the process of designing a custom MRC I Sump and separate refugium and don’t want to overlook anything.

My current setup is a 210 gallon DT on the first floor; sump/ equipment is in the basement.
I am building the sump to handle a possible future tank upgrade (500 gallons).
My tank is well established, I have of LR and soft corals. My fish stock is low at this time- only two clownfish, one mandarin goby, and a cleaner wrasse. I am waiting until after my upgrade to restock the fish and would like to introduce LPS and SPS corals. I have plenty of light and flow to accommodate most inhabitants. (3 Radion Pro G2, 1 MP40, 1 MP60, returns are plumbed over the back, factory bulkheads are used as drains to sump).

Two externally mounted Abyzz A400 pumps will be used for water movement (one for return to DT, one for Skimmer/manifold to feed reactors; UV).
I will incorporate a separate saltwater mixing station to provide supply for continuous water changes via Neptune Apex, DOS.
Neptune Trident for water testing and second DOS for B-Ionic dosing.

The current design is a 72”x24”x24” MRC I sump and a separate MRC I refugium will be 48”x18”x18”.

I will have a chamber to hold (2) MRC FMC-620 media reactors (GFO, Carbon), external skimmer (MRC MR3) and an MRC CR2 calcium reactor. The MRC moving-bed bio chamber is also incorporated into the design.

I would like to have a section of the refugium be separated for use as a small frag tank in the future, using removable shelf and baffles – Any thoughts on this?

I am thinking about designing a removable mount in both the sump and refugium so I can mount multiple madison float switches for water level alarms and ATO.
(High, low, bulk water change low levels)

Anyone have any issues or regrets with their current I Sumps?

Anyone have the MRC moving-bed bio chamber setup?

Thanks in advance.

Sounds like an awesome setup! Basically my dream setup!

Did you end up going with this design? Interested as I am starting a very similar build plan.
