Hello All,

Looking for opinions on the Reeflo MRC Orca Pro I... the unit is rated for 100-gallon to 400-gallon systems, I have 3 tanks all plumped into to a central sump, the sump is an additional 100 gallons and the total combined gallons are a little shy of 400-gallon... I'm leaning more towards this unit (for various reasons) but want to make an informed decision as this is a somewhat of a high price purchase.

I wouldn't feel comfortable putting a skimmer on my system that is at its max recommendation, especially when those recommendations are usually exaggerated. If I were you I'd be exploring other options, in that price range there is plenty to look at. I've been looking into lifereef skimmers and I'm pretty sure that is what I'm going to go with on my grow out system.

I really want a life reef also they seem like they work well. I know there is a lifereef thread on rc

Lifereef skimmers

Big fan of d2mini's build and I know he ran one on his old setup, I know Lifereef skimmers have been around for 31yrs and folks have nothing but high praise, looked at what they have to offer and I'm thinking the best fit might be VS3-48, 48" tall, would you agree with that?

Additionaly what mode, Re-Circulation/Co-current or is one of the other configurations better:

Conventional
Counter-current
Re-Circulation/Counter-Current

Thanks, Alex

With a system that size I think I'd be looking at the vs3-60. You can give Jeff a call, he's more than happy to take the time to discuss things and to give his input. From what I understand his customer service is top notch and the few emails I sent back and forth with him so far would suggest the same. You can also get a second opinion from the the guys from the lifereef skimmer club and there are a couple of guys running venturi skimmer in out club too, I believe blitzie and ca1ore.

That skimmer will handle your tanks IMO.....I have used lifereef in the past they have great contact time . But if you end up going with a Venturi system I would lean towars the MTC skimmer over the lifereef...

Yes I do run a Lifereef SVS3-30 with Mag12 Pump and I love it. Truly a set and forget item.
Have a conversation with Jeff and he will tell you what is best for your system.

Next up I get his Calcium Reactor

Thanks everyone, I'll reach out to Jeff and see what we can workout.
