Mrs. Wages Pickling lime
Does anyone know if there is an expiration date on these bags? I found a bag in my pantry that I bought a while back probably like two years ago. There is a number but does not look like an expiration date. S0076P04.

I recently found a couple of bags that I had stored away. They're at least 3 years old, probably longer. I've recently used one and still haven't opened the other one yet. The bags were unopened and still produce the same results as the newer batch of kalkwasser that I bought from Drs. Foster and Smith.
I think the expiration date may just be for a loss of potency, especially if the bags have been opened to the air.

The only thing bad that could happen is slow penetration of carbon dioxide making calcium carbonate. That may make it a little less poent, but otherwise isn't a concern. I used the same container of quicklime (the dehydrated version of lime) for years.

I got a reply back from Mrs wages and they said do not use it. It was from 2010. I did not realize it was that old. I know I did not buy it back then because I did not have a saltwater tank back then. Just never know how old these bags are when sitting on the shelves at the stores.

They do not know what you are using it for or what you may be concerned with. We do, and likely are more informed chemists anyway. :)
