Gauging interest in a group buy from Aqua SD. Here is some details below if interested.

Putting a order in with Aqua SD in a few weeks. MTRC MEMBERS ONLY!!

Anybody from MTRC is welcome to join the group buy starting Oct 1-Oct 10. The orders will be shipped my house, Saturday Oct 12.

How this will work- Starting on Oct 1-Oct 10, visit Aqua SD website - aquasd.com Post here what you want to order with the amount each coral is. I will send Will(Aqua SD) this thread link and he will keep up with the overall total.
On Oct 10, He will caculate everybodys total with their discount and shipping combined($25 saturday delievery fee divided among everybody). You will paypal him your total and he will label everybody's order to be shipped to my house Saturday Oct 12.

Here is the email i got from Aqua SD about the group buy--

'What I normally do for group buys is:

Orders over $300 gets free shipping and 10% off
Orders over $500 gets free shipping and 20% off
Orders over $1000 gets free shipping and 30% off

Everyone who participates gets a freebie (as long as they get 1 coral/frag). Oh, and the freebie, I give people options. In the notes, just put (example) - Free SPS, or Free Acan, or Free paly/zoa etc".

Example of how you place your order starting Oct 1-Oct 10.

When I was living in LA I had the chance to check out their facility in San Diego and I can see they run a nice clean operation and they had some really nice pieces. Wish my tank was going to be up in time!

Man, I'm in the same boat... my tank isn't ready yet! :squigglemouth:

Maybe I can join the next one. :)

I know a member who recently had a very bad experience with them. 90% of what they received died.

That stinks for that person. 1 out of 6 acros died from my first order. I take blame for it dieing from placement or doser malfunction.

I plan on buying a replacment piece so i thought i throw the invite out to the club to save on shipping and get a better price.

Can you give a little more information on this bad experience? Was this a reefer with a lot of experience? Was it a well established tank? Was their parameters stable? Was their a shipping issue? How long did the shipment "sit" after delivery? Did the individual attempt to speak with AquaSD about their issues?

I know from my own experiences that I have had issues with purchases online with all of these issues I've mentioned. 90% of the time it was either my fault or my "tanks" fault. I had one experience with a R2R sponsor/vendor that I feel like I definitely got the bad end on, but other times, it was my fault.

More info may help myself and others decide if they want to purchase things in this GB, because your post makes it appear you have a negative view on this vendor.

Thanks

Their tank is not that old, but it has been set up long enough to successfully keep SPS including Acros. Nothing in his tank has looked bad at all the whole time he lost 90% of what he received from the new shipment. It was stuff from a live sale, and I feel like it may have been just shipped in on a large order to compensate for the live sale, and they did not have time to acclimate before they were once again shipped off to the MTRC member. I am not saying dont order from Aqua SD. They are a good vendor and have greast corals and even better reviews, Just sharing what I know happened in the last month or so to someone local.

I had this problem for about the first year, not really sure what the cause was but I kindof narrowed it down to an imbalance in mature (good) bacteria. And supposedly RTN/STN is caused by a bacterial infection or something of that nature.....
OK, I know so far I have yet to be able to keep acros alive, and I know my levels are spot on. I can't explain it.

Great news!!
Will(Aqua SD) is generously allowing us as a groupbuy to purchase from his live sales from now til the groupbuy ends(Oct 10).

The only request is to limit the amount (if any) of large colony corals due to limited holding space.

How this will work
On their live sale, if you make a purchase then you are required to pay for that coral at that time( already discounted), you do not pay for shipping at that time.
BUT, since the corals are super discounted then free shipping is not a option. Will has agreed to allow us to pay a one time fee of $40 for the first person who makes a purchase from the live sale and a one time fee of $10 per other person who joins in on the live sale.

I believe its only fair that we divide the total shipping cost out among only the people who join the live sale.

If we do not reach the amount needed for free shipping from the website, those who participated in purchases from the website, will divide that shipping cost amongst those people.

I hope this isnt confusing to anyone, but if it is please let me know and i will try and again or we can discuss it over the phone.

Thanks
Greg

That's really cool they're allowing those to be combined! That's a lot more work on their end. Kudos. Wish my tank was ready. :)

Live sale tomorrow nite, some killer deals on some awesome corals.
Will at Aqua SD's corals are healed before the sales but if you buy now then there shouldnt be any health issue by the time they get here on the 12th. Lots of healing time!

Im prob going to do some buying tomorrow nite.

With the prices these guys are putting on stuff in the live sale, I'm very surprised more people aren't jumping in on this. The fact he is giving us group buy shipping on the live sale is incredible. I bought a rainbow BTA tonight for $48. The best price I've seen on them since I've been in the hobby. Also bought a shroom pack for my Shroom tank that has the ironman and some sick yumas. I encourage anyone who has not watch one of his live sales, to do so. He has been doing them every Friday night for about two months now.

If I had my tank ready, I'd be jumping on board, too. :)
