so.. this is a 75g mixed tank with canister filter.
I’ve been away for work and left the tank in the hands of the fiancé. She knew the routines of the tank well enough.
So I get back after three months to find out she has only topped off the tank twice with zero water changes. Canister filter has been unplugged for ,who knows, how long.... over half the tank is dead I have three fish gone and several hundreds of daily ads in coral completely dead.
So my question is if I do a 50% wc right now would that complete the crash or help bring my tank back on track

You could probably get more aggressive with the H2O changes depending on what livestock is left and current tank parameters. Your salinity is prob pretty high depending on where it started so be careful when performing the water change you dont drop it too fast and cause further stress to whatever is left.

Is the salinity off the chart? If she only topped off twice you must have some low evaporation.

I would make sure to check that and adjust a 50% wc accordingly. Use 10% water changes every2 to 3 days for the next week to keep bringing everything to balance. Problem I would worry about is the animals are very stressed and die off is likely still continuing. Grabbing a stick on ammonia monitor in the mean time may help guide things.

Water change helps and Canisters for me,. Not favorable in a marine tank. A Hang on Back Fuge and or skimmer would help greatly. Offers ease of maintenance, easy to monitor and acts as a sump.

Does this mean the wedding is off.... Sorry i had to ask..

I agree with 50 % water change . Get Filtration up and running , Move as much surface ares water as you can , Test after 24 hours and see how the tank numbers look.. If its still way out of wack another 50 if its only slights off maybe 30 . WATER Change wait 24 test... water change wait 24 test .. BUT Lower salinity Slower then 24 hour spans.... do that over a week .

Yeah the wedding would be off for sure ... Ooops sorry ..

That’s still up for debate haha. I done the 50% and corals are starting to open up. Salinity wasn’t too far off considering I now have salt creep all over the tank and sheet rock.

dang. That's tough :( I hope this isn't why you're parting all your stuff. Glad to hear the corals that made it are opening back up.

No this is my 75 the reefkeeper is currently on. Selling all apex and RK to buy either new lights or the new apex with triton
