I'm in the plumbing stages, and I am thinking about the color of PVC that I want to use. I see that a lot of people use red or blue. Also, I see that there tends to be a single color of PVC, other than the typical gray or white connection fittings.

I am thinking about using, say, blue for the main drain pipe, red for the emergency drain pipe, green for the return, yellow for the manifold, etc. It might be easier to keep the plumbing identifiable for myself and for others that may be performing maintenance on the system when I am away. Also, it would be easy for my wife to tell me where a potential leak or issue may be stemming from when I am not home.

Would you consider using multicolored plumbing?

Great idea. Seen some very nice setups where they have done that and it looked cool. It will cost you more though. BRS keeps a lot of the different colors in stock. And they have the great quality valves. :D

Hi Nick,

For the purposes of organization and visual aid (especially for the people who love us enough to take care of these small worlds for us when we are away) this is a great idea.

Any multi-colored plumbing scheme that I have ever seen however, is horribly ugly. If you can live with the aesthetic of it, then go for it. If you are OCD like me - pick a color combo you want and do the job uniformly. Label makers are cheap! :)

I like multicolored plumbing and it does provide good reference to what you are looking at. But it's expensive. Where are you getting your piping from?

I love the colored pvc options.
I plumbed 2 different friends tank with it.
Turned out great looking and is a real conversation starter.
It doesn't move water any better or does anything better, but just adds a touch of class to any build.
Be sure to use clear primer and glue.

I just wish I had seen it when I plumbed my tanks. If I ever do another build, I will definitely use it.
