I've had dino algae in the past. This possibly could be as well but it just seems different to me.
First type:
Clear, easily comes off while syphoning with an airline. Appearance of snot. Holds in what i would consider indirect high flow areas. One of the pictures to follow has a large bubble in it. I believe its actually just trapped there as it doesn't change size or ever leave. I've been watching it during the week.
Second type:
Red almost looks "hairy". Also easily comes off. I've had cyano in the past this just looks different then what I remember. Same type characteristics, seems to be in a lower flow areas where sand meets rock or frag plugs. I've picked up a second mp40wqd to try an deal with this. I also plan to up my water changes.
Nitrates and phosphates are always undetectable. I know that's not a true reading considering the bubble algae ect. My tank is currently fallow so I have been feeding coral. Spot feeding pellets to lps along with ammino acids & coral vitalizer made by Pohl's. This was to combat the fading I was getting in my sps after removing my bioload for QT.
My main concern is the Type 1 algae. It has started to smother some zoanthids and is spreading throughout the tank. Not quickly like a dino bloom (overnight) but slowly over the last few weeks. I syphon my sump everyweek along with airline the smuck off the rocks. 25 gal water change on a 100g system.
Calcium reactor
alk 9-9.4
calcium 450
magnesium 1650 (kent tech M dosing for bryosips. About done!)
Nitrate .02 if at all - salifert
Phophate undetectable with Hannah
Things I dose daily:
Ammino acids - Pohl's
Coral Vitalizer - Pohl's
Brightwell Potassium - 5ml
Iodine - 2 drops daily
100ml Kent Tech M lights out
Weekly water changes with RODI (0 tds)
Change filter sock 1x a week
I syphon sump with water change
change carbon & GFO bi weekly
10 hour photoperiod. First and last hour are x2 actinic bulbs.
Believe it or not, my bubble algae issue is under 50% of what it once was. Also winning the battle with bryopsis. Part of me wonders if this is taking up whatever they were feeding off of? Started to appear as the others were on the decline.
Any help as to what this is and how to combat it would be great. I'm open to all ideas that will be mixed reef safe.
Sensitive livestock
Blue/Grey carpet nem
Maxima Clam
SPS
Thanks All.
Matt
