Multiple purple tang exp?

I'd recommend babies since it'll be hard to find a bigger set. I'd pull the big one and reintroduce together or after the babies. Rearranging rocks will help. Make sure everyone has their own cave to sleep. I don't have 3 purple but 3 zebrasoma. 1 baby and 2 adults.

Purple tangs are the most aggressive in my experience so I'm not sure if they'll be peaceful long term. I've traded all my purple tangs away. Lol. Black tangs seems to be the most docile of the bunch.

I'd start inspecting them right away. I'm not sure if it'll help if you happen to get too many males. Aggression might only increase. Zebrasoma males have a fuz on the tale. Keep a couple QTs in case you need to separate.

4 vlamingii might too much for even a 1000 IMO. They get 2ft. Lol I wouldn't recommend them. Good luck

It should be a party. The silver monos I have are outgrowing the smaller vlamingii tangs. Theyre.growing rather quickly or the fastest of all my fish.
I've noticed growth in the 3 small vlamingiis.
I wanted unicorn tangs and the 3 vlamingii species I got seem to be doing a lot better than the naso Unicorns I had that past. They just didn't seem to acclimate to tank life. I did add macro and they ate that off the bottom as it settled in large clumps and balls. They also started eating the frozen I feed or I thought they did.
Lol
Sucks.
Yes I like big fish and am aware 1 day I might have to donate or find new homes when they get large.
Most of my fish minus the zebra species of tangs are gonna get large.

Well. I added 3 purple tangs to my existing 1 big one. Wish me luck.

Taping a mirror on the outside of the tank has worked me in the past to diffuse some of the impending fighting. Good luck. Purples are my favorite!

Do you use nori? I'd recommend seaweed pellets if so. That'll keep them busy and decrease competition at a single clip or 2.

Another trick is to get some moveable decorations... like some of the broken pottery aquarium décor pieces that aren't too tacky... and move them around (or take them in and out) when you put in new tangs... or when the current tangs start fighting because your auto feeder is empty.

Any update to your 3 purple tang journey? I added three baby sized purple tang to my 300 g tank too. They are too small to fight with each other now . My vlamingi tang grew from 3 inches to 8 inches in 6 months . I don’t know how u got 4

My two purples. Been together in my 525 for six years, since they were quarter sized.

I’d consider a wholesaler that already keeps them in large groups and have you LFS obtain them.

In the early 90s saw a six foot tank full of yellow tangs all crammed together living in peaceful harmony at a local wholesaler. Was an impressive scene. First thing I thought of was purple tangs and powder blues all crammed together living in peaceful harmony. Tang police were nonexistent then :rolling-on-the-floor-laughing:
