So, a few weeks back my neighbor and best friend for 24 years passed away unexpectedly at age 54. I was the last person to talk with him the night he passed. He was also a superb tank sitter whenever I was out of town. Feeding fish 2x a day. Filling ATO etc... just all around great person and dearly missed.

So I went out of town for 5 days and just left an auto feeder on my tank. Came home today and my beautiful 10 inch wide monti digi fell off the top rock perch directly onto my trachy I've had almost 2 years. This thing was 8 inches around. I guess they battled it out because both were like 85% dead when I got home today. Trachy smelled so it was a gonner and the monti digi was bleaching out with algae covering portions. Maybe can save a frag or two.

Really bummed, I know if my buddy was still around he would have separated them until I returned. I just pray that he is resting at peace. Corals can be replaced. Best friends for 24 years can't be replaced.

Sorry to hear. I can't imagine, but RIP to your buddy.

Hopefully you can find some peace by enjoying your reef tank as that is ultimately what I think they are for despite all the work and tribulation coral keeping can cause.

Thank you, actually the past few weeks since his passing I've been kind of distant from my tank. Just been sad and not wanting to feel that tank enjoyment per se but you are very correct, these tanks provide a lot of peace and enjoyment. I know I will get back to normal soon...thanks again

Very sorry for your loss. You and his family both have my condolences.

As was previously said, true good friends are rare in life. I can only hope I'm lucky enough to find a friend who's also as good of a tanksitter and friend as he was.

Thank you, yes I was lucky, he really cared for my tank and text me daily with staus. I looked after his house too when he was out of town. Took care of his cat.

I’m so sorry for your loss. I know it will take time but eventually you will be able to look at your tank and remember the good times with your friend. :smiling-face-with-tear: sending all my love and healing thoughts your way.

Thank you, yes hopefully the grief period will pass and I will get back to enjoying the hobby. Just thinking to much about his family now.
