Mysterious maroon clownfish death last nite. it showed no signs of being sick and was hosting my bubble coral. I introduced a new six line wrasse yesterday but they didn't seem to be fighting or anything. I have a 14 gallon biocube that has been set up for a year now.. two months ago I lost fish to ich,
But tank was free from fish. Added clown week and a half ago and he was doing great so I got the wrasse

Ich! You will need to run your system fish free for 6 weeks in order for the ich to die out!

Your wrasse may have a higher immunity to ich but will still most likely get it :(

Sixlines can be nasty little suckers. He may have killed your clown. Maroons are one of the more aggressive ones but sixlines....suffice it to say that I will never recommend one (except for aggressive-type tanks.)

I doubt it was the wrasse, the Clown probably had some underlying disease process going on that was not the usual suspects like Cryptocaryans or Brookynella. One fish over another does not have a higher immunity to parasites. One fish might have a thick mucous coating that inhibits the attachment of parasites such as mandarins, but all fish get Marine Ich. A Maroon and a Six line in 14 gallon is recipe for disaster eventually, aggressive fish with no room for territories. Sorry you lost your fish but it happens and the description murder is a little too much drama for a fish dying sorry.

Wait...you had a maroon in a 14? They get much too big for that. And adding anything to that would be unhealthy, let alone a sixline. I would lean towards preexisting damage that wasn't enough to be obvious but that was sent over the edge by the addition of another aggressive fish.

I recommend you research your fish better before purchase. :/ You'll avoid a lot of heartache that way.

My plan was to move the maroon to the 50 gallon im starting. It was just that and a yellow rose goby in there.

Sorry, that's what I meant, I know it's the slime coat of a fish that makes them less prone to ich but isn't that a kind of immunity?

Immunity is developed from exposure to a pathogen involving the developement specific cell types. The fish may have an immunity response involving the mucous layer such as inflammation or increased secretion but the coating is not developed in response to an exposure, it's always present regardless of the presence or history of pathogen exposure. I would call it defense mechanism first.

Thanks everyone I will do a much better job next time.

Bigger tank, or less fish and smaller ones or more corals. Nanos are really limiting unfortunately. Good luck

While I got ya. Just purchased jbj 3 gallon cubey. And I want to stock it with a few corals two sexy shrimp and maybe a small goby. Too much?

I can see a Citron goby or the tiny other gobies but nothing bigger.
