How many gallons of muriatic acid do we want to dump with fresh water into a 44g Brute Rubbermaid trash can to get out all the caked on and hardened salt mix calcium deposits from over the years? I’m guessing we want it relatively stronger than a normal 50/50 vinegar water solution, right?

No, 1 part acid to 10 parts water. I’m not sure I’d fill it. That solution has a much lower pH than vinegar and works much faster.

Yes, even diluted it is very strong. You can slow roll it, or it’s a pitcher to scoop some up and rinse it down the sides or something like that.

Definitely worked with it before. But it's been years. We have a face shield for chainsaws, rubber gloves, respirators, long sleeve shirt and pants...

Thanks everyone for all the reminders on how nasty it is! I'll be sure to suit up before using it!

Think I'll try a slow roll with a wood block to support/elevate the open end of the trash can.

Also make sure you put the water in first then the acid! Safety first!
Do as you oughta, add acid to water. (Spoken with a Boston accent.) ;Shamefullyembarrased

Be very careful. This is powerful stuff.

I’m Acid washing recently used Live rock now. 1 gal Muriatic to ~30 gallons of water. I’ll let sit about 24 hours, then will do a complete flush 3-4 times.

Then I’ll do a bleaching. 1 gal of bleach to 30 gallons of water. Let sit for a week, then flush 3-4 times with Prime added. Lastly it will sit in RO Saltwater with Prime for a few days.

I’ll then dry it.

you might want to try the bleach first... the acid after helps to get rid of the bleach....
