Hi I recently got rid of Cyanobacteria and so due to that my nitrates are still quite high but everything else is what I would call perfect. What I was wondering is if a mushroom would do well because I heard they like high nitrates. If so what would be the very highest nitrates you could add a mushroom to and would it help lower the nitrates?
Thank you

Not sure what's high to you. Some people think 10 is high. Where are your nitrates now?
Please don’t laugh or cry… they are so high I am doing massive water changes so it’s very annoying. They are 70ppm

70 ppm is pretty darn high. Water changes are nice, but there needs to be another reason why they are so high. Depends on the mushroom, but they shouldn't die at this level. But I would bring it down. Massive water change in your main aquarium is something that I am personally not a fan of. You want as much stability as possible. I am huge fan of Seachem's Matrix. Maybe you can add that to your tank. Through experience, I did notice that it helped with controlling nitrates. Again thou, what's causing nitrates this high? How is the gas exchange in your tank?

Yeah I agree about the water change business tbh when I say big water changes I mean I have been syphoning the red of the sand in the past weeks. When you say gas exchange do you mean like flow

70ppm is a bit on the high side. Mushrooms would probably be ok, but you'd need to acclimate for a long time. I suggest getting them down to about 30ppm before adding corals. You'll need some sort of nutrient export, whether it's water changes or a refugium. It's also possible to dose certain things, but I'm not too knowledgable about that, and it might not be a good long term solution.
