Can anybody help me? I cannot keep mushrooms for the life of me! A while ago I bought a blue discosoma. Turned to goo. Yesterday I bought 6 ricordeas and they were not cheap. 1 has already detached and the rest are just moving around. I don't know whats wrong.. The rest of my corals look great and are growing. Any help would be appreciated, I really can't lose these guys!

That's really bizarre. Mushrooms are really tough to kill. What kind of other corals are surviving? Maybe you have something eating them.
Also what are you tank parms?

Not sure what my params are currently but I can check in a few minutes. I have GSP, zoanthids, gorgonians, spongeodes, monti caps, a toadstool, kenya trees, and a flower anemone. Nothing seems to be eating them, they just scooch away. They are in low DIRECT light. Should I try and move them to shade under a rock ledge?

Well lets look at your parms and see what we have there. I have mushrooms I"m trying to kill. They grow everywhere and I cant get rid of them. LOL. They even survived a nuking of the tank. So I"m curious as to what the your parms are. With all those nice corals and no issues, I don think we are going to find anything there.....but its worth a try. Only think that comes to mind is ph.

Salinity: 1.026 (I know some people prefer a bit lower but it works for me)
Ph: 8.0
Alk: 9
Cal: 450
Nitrate: Undetectable
Ammonia/trite: 0
Temp: 79.5
I don't test for magnesium but don't think that would effect it.

Wow!. There must be something really wrong with the mushrooms you are buying. Are you sure it's a coral mushroom and not the mushroom we are eating?. :D

Now, back to the thread. I have yet to see a melting mushroom in a tank, unless the water parameter is totally screwed. Surprisingly your other corals are doing fine. The mushroom you recently bought might be infected, badly injured or in the verge of dying due to shipping stresses.

Your parms look good. I cant think of anything. I was expecting maybe a low ph, but you are great. I keep mine low in hoping the dang mushrooms will shrivel up. LOL. You will have to wait for someone to chime in that has experienced this issue. REally weird.

They are looking better today. I think expansion is good right? Because these things are ENORMOUS now. I moved them into the second lowest light area of the tank where there is probably no flow and they look better. The one that came off attached to a rock I put it on, so I'm thinking it was the lighting

Awesome. That's good news. Didn't know light would melt them like that. I have seen light turn them white and shrivel them up over time. Glad to hear they are doing better. Expansion is good.
