I have done this multiple times to get more mushroom corals mostly with Discomoma and few Ricordea species. I wanted to know if others do the same by cutting half of the mushroom coral through its mouth? If so what kind of species? I want to continue with new species in the future so some different ones with success helps.

I've had 100% success cutting my ricordia shrooms usually healed up within a week or so and eating mysis shrimp.
Same with discos honestly I've cut them up like pizzas and have had great success rates.
Recently tore a bounce that was unknowingly stuck to a frag rack. Got a small piece of mouth and foot and healed up nice and was also eating mysis shrimp with a cpl weeks.
Really would like to try fragging my Og bounce but haven't had the guts to do it.

I have lost frags. Clean cut through the mouth. Just melted away. Luckily the mom survived.

Nice I have been doing it for a year and some of my buddies said they didn't know this technique so I was wondering how popular it might be. Glad to hear others have had success.

If you get a clean cut through the mouth and put the cuts in an iodine dip just so there’s no chance of a bacterial infection there’s a very very low mortality rate.

When you say cut thru the moth what exactly do you mean, length ways or top to bottom.
Thanks

it doesn’t really matter, the only thing that matters is trying to get a piece of the mouth to better the odds of survival. Technically you don’t have to get a piece of the mouth and if you frag off even the smallest of pieces it will regrow into a full mushroom, but again the more mouth; the more likely It will survive.

I’m not sure if you can frag any piece off of discasomas or ricordeas, this method has only worked for rhodactis shrooms with me

yes I have multiple times. That’s the rhodactis I am referring to.
Cool would love to see your method and how you do it. Like I said I have had easy un intentional success just tear piece off a different bounce in the past. Tiny piece of the mouth if any.
I cant see or find the mouth of my mom Og bounce.

Let me know when you do. I watched a video and seen a guy poke around to find the mouth on his Og. He actually irritates the mouth a little to keep it focused during cutting. Problem for me is I have no idea where her mouth is and havent been brave enough to go poking around with all the issues I've had lately.
Looking forward to watching you frag yours.

I have never tried Iodine dipping before I will add that process when I cut some mushroom corals. At least I won't have to worry about bacterial infections now when they heal.
