So I was sold this as a "hairy mushroom" but have been having a hard time placing it in the right family. Is it a rhodactis with really long tentecals? Thanks for any help you may offer!

Very cool, I have never come across St Thomas mushrooms before. I'm still not convinced that's what it is, but maybe it is just a morph of some sort?
I paid $15 for him, he's about 1.5 inch across does that sound about normal?

Hairy mushroom is all I know them by. Interested to know what kind they are also. Here is mine (please overlook the bad iPad picture and cyano I am fighting)

And it sounds like it was in the right price range. I bought mine when the coral store had a BOGO free sale so it was $5.

There we go! That's definitely the same thing. I'm sure someone who knows what they are will comment soon.

Yeah that's awesome looking. I want one. Might be hairy or st Thomas. I think some of the green ones look like this.

From what I've seen St Thomas have funky shaped "hairs" and that what makes them different. Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe both are just different varieties of Rhodactis. I know that my purple and green hairy shroom acts about the same as my rhodactis.

Im not sure if this is Discosoma sanctithomae aka St. Thomas, or Rhodactis indosinensis aka hairy mushroom. Both grow pretty large and will eat fleshy meat but also contain zooxanthellae. They are very similar, but I feel your LFS was correct in calling this a "hairy".

Anyone care to help me identify this guy?

That looks like a rhodactis with a few bubbles. I think that bounce shrooms are rhodactis that mysteriously bubble . It may bubble more or they may go away. I would just sit back and watch.

The bubbles have been growing bigger, I have it at the bottom of my tank. I wonder if I can move it closer to the light to see if it intensifies the bubbling

I snagged a decent rock with 4 good size hairy mushrooms.
