Mushrooms on back wall

Doing some planning of coral placement for the Reefer 425 I am building, and I was wondering if it is possible to grow mushrooms of different varieties on the back wall of the tank, or do they need to grow on plugs/rocks?

I know GSP has been done many times on the back wall, but I can't recall if mushrooms have been.
