My 1,000 litre drop off tank

Dear reefers,

Here my new drop off tank which I have installed in my new place. As stated earlier I finally had the space and the money to splash out a bit. Tank now running for 2 weeks and initial issues with the Jebao wavemaker overcome by replacing by tunze turbelle.

Algea boost went away within 2 days and now need to improve the lighting. Seems odd after buying a new purpose buidl system but it seems that hobbyist and buildrs have different standards in this country.

Nice room divider, if I can say so myself ;-)

Will keep updating the build.

How deep is the lower section? The only thing I’d be worried about is how to maintain that deep of a tank!

Lower section is 80cm (31”) nd the high section 40cm deep (15”)

For the deep part my concept is to have natural cleaning of the sand with sand sifting sea stars and clean up crew.
See how far this gets us. The Gobi i put in has been invisible most of the time. Saw him/her only yesterday for 2 minutes. Hope he/she gains confidence ;-)

Awesome! Yeah, once the sandbed is mature, a Diamond Goby would keep that sandbed squeaky clean!

31” isn’t too bad. You could probably find a siphon that would go that deep if you found yourself needing to do it.

Yes the diamond Gobi is in and hope he settles in nicely. Didnt realise they were the shy type ;-) But indeed the sand bed need to mature and so far we are happy.

To simulate reef conditions I have the wavemaker switch off for the night and comes on a bit before the "sun" comes up in the tank. The fish seem more relaxed in the evening now.

Once you get it going it'll look real nice.
I'm 50/50 myself on drop off tanks i like them but i always see all the space on the bottom of the low side i wish was veing used lol

Yes which moves 4.000 to 13.000l per hour. Had two smaller ones (both on same side) which moved less in total.
But the Jebao lasted 2 days and the controller didn't reset after feeding mode

Thx and I now need to have patience, not my trademark. Always good we all have different tastes in styles or all tanks would be the same . Also my living roon is 15" lower so the drop off follows the step where it is.

Continue to build the tank. First inhabitants are feeling great.
Build Refugium with 24/7 lighting.
Due to filling the tank with live sea water the cycle has been very easy.
Smaller issues solved by diy and waiting for better lighting system

Always difficult to compare these tanks as cost per country varies a lot. but custom made in Belgium with costs over 8.000$ ex inhabitants
